About Smolten
Based in the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, Smolten Lighting & Décor creates quality, high-end lighting and decorative pieces rooted in craftsmanship and conscious materiality. At the heart of their practice is a commitment to sustainability: each design uses recycled cast aluminum and steel, thoughtfully reimagined into enduring works of functional art. Working from their in-house foundry, the team sand-casts reclaimed aluminum and shapes hand-beaten steel with precision and care. Steel elements are individually bent by hand, ensuring that every lamp carries subtle variations that make it truly one of a kind. Using recycled metals not only reduces environmental impact but also lends each piece a depth and character unique to cast and forged material.

Smolten’s distinctive four-part finishing process further refines every creation: hand-primed, layered with enamel, treated with a water-based matte coating, and finished with a soft sheen highlight to enhance dimension and texture. The result is lighting that feels substantial yet refined—equally suited to private residences, lodges, and hospitality projects around the world.
